it's all happening

"They don't even know what it is to be a fan. You know, to truly love some silly little piece of music or some band so much that it hurts." -Sapphire, Almost Famous

Anyone who knows me knows I have long been in love with groupies. Some may see groupies as pathetic sluts, but I don't see it that way. Some definitely are, but the ones I love (hint: not the Rock of Love bitches, no matter how awesome that show is) are awesome, empowered individuals. Yes, Almost Famous is my favourite movie and I've read Pamela des Barres' books. I think I've found my future career path.

Cynthia Plaster Caster
(Jimmy Page and) Lori Maddox, alias "Lori Lightning"
The goddess and my favourite fictional person ever, Penny Lane (played by Kate Hudson, but you knew that)

Yes...Being a groupie would be an awesome experience to have under one's belt...No pun intended. God, that really wasn't funny.

Penny Lane is what I am naming my next dog. Or firstborn child.

i agree groupies ca be people who are so moved by a bands music they are willing to follow them around it does sound kinda skanky but i would love to do that!

I definately think its your calling. Most groupies either look really innocent or really... ahem, not. You can be the first sort and surprise people!

When I read this, I thought of the line of scene queens I saw at a recent concert. They were styl'n. The hair. The makeup. The piercing. The fishnets. God, I wonder what they looked like after the show.

Of course, I'm sure its all 'them'. Not the band. But its so sweet to hear a huge fellow from behind scream out how he's got a hard on for the female drummer from MSI.

I'm usually not a fan of groupies, but the Almost Famous ladies are very inspiring.

I love almost famous. My favorite groupie is Bebe Buell. I think that's mostly because I had the biggest crush on Coyote Shivers.

Cynthia Plaster Caster has always cracked me up. What a calling! Some people are called by God...others are called by rock gods.

i know that feeling so well. and it hurts all the more knowing that all bands i love so much that it hurts are long gone. it seems to me there is no band worth being a groupie of at the moment.
once again, i wish i'd been born like, 50 years ago.

fantastic post yet again, Molly ! Whenever I think of you, I always think of groupies..you just have that unique groupie feel which is so rare! and oh, haha, remember, we were supposed to run away and become Arctic Monkeys' groupies..still on? haha;)

I had this big plan of doing the Kayla Hyne chant on my birthday party in the weekend, but I completely forgot. Sorry sweetie! I'll try to remeber next time.

you're my hero too..please remember me when you're the world's most famous groupie!

We share the same favourite movie. I think it's probably a lot of people's favourite, because honestly...Penny Lane. Patrick Fugit. Love and sex and heartbreak and rock. yeahhh... anyway, no idea who this cynthia character is, I shall go wikipedia to repair this gaping hole in my knowledge.

I'm not sure when I started obsessing over groupies, but I do know the GTOs were the first to really inspire me. The "groupies" of today are no match for the ones of rockstars past. I think if I were to be a groupie I'd have wanted to be one for The Doors, because even though Jim Morrison was the sleaziest of sleazy, he had this strange sexiness.

Cynthia was definitly a different kind of groupie.

I haven't seen almost famous. Perhaps I'll watch it.

I, as well, LOVE Almost Famous. "It's all happening" is one of my favorite quotes. I have no idea why, it just captures a feeling, a way of living, an emotion, I suppose. When Penny Lane says, "What KIND of beer?" that is just brilliant acting.

And while I love the groupie-look, I was never the biggest groupie fan, it kind of relates back to my dislike of people who live off of others. But now I'm starting to sound really self-righteous and snotty.

Great post though, I love the look of old pictures.
