downy sins of streetlight fancies, chase the costumes she shall wear

I know fur can be a touchy subject, my feelings run along the lines of "eh, anti-fur...who has the energy anymore?" I'm really not an animal person, and I just can't bring mysef to be too bothered about it. Yes, I've seen the "HORRIFYING, OMG, HOW CAN SOMEONE DO THAT" videos taken secretly by PETA (I don't want to get started on them, lest I find some dead tofu on my front steps or anything) members. I'm sorry, I guess I'm just selfish and insensitive (I can live with that, really, anonymous comment leavers), because I love how badass and rock'n'roll a good fur coat looks.
Case in point: Who knows, maybe when I mature a little more, I'll realize what a truly barbaric practice this is, but until then, my fox fur coat (that I am in the process of acquiring from dear Nicola) and I will have many an adventure, and hopefully none of them will involve being doused in blood.
Dream big!

i can move you if you let me

Oh, hey, it's been awhile...

Uh, yeah, that's my bad. I've been suffering a certain lack of inspiration. Here are some pictures, quotes and videos to inspire you...

The best thing of all is the combination of the surprising and the beautiful. - Ludwig van Beethoven

The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer-- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer. - Ken Kesey

Hey, you know something people? I'm not black, but there's a whole lots a times I wish I could say I'm not white. -Frank Zappa

Art is not the application of a canon of beauty but what the instinct and the brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don't start measuring her limbs.- Pablo Picasso

i can tell you things to get you excited, things you never heard

The other night, as I was juggling oranges while watching Sherlock Holmes, I came to a realization. An epiphany, if you will.

A rough image of what I'd been doing. Note the lines between oranges indicating motion.*

I thought to myself, what am I doing?? How could four so very separate commodities - me, oranges, Sherlock Holmes and juggling - have collided into such a satisfying moment? It was there are then that I drew the conclusion that life's best moments are just that: a collision of little joys.
(I really ought to climb to the top of a mountain, grow a beard and charge people kumquats for advice.)
Sometimes, however, life, or should I say universe is overly generous and allows collisions of extreme greatness. Its the equivelant of the really expensive Christmas gift from an aunt you never see, that leaves you wondering what you did to deserve such magnificance.
I'll share some examples from my life.

Tim Burton's 1988 version of Batman really seems like the movie made for me. It stars my favourite actor, Jack Nicholson, with a soundtrack by my favourite artist, Prince. Before I saw it, I was a bit concerned because I hate action movies, plus I was worried it would be too much a good thing. Let me tell you something. "Too much of a good thing" doesn't exist. It's a fascist plot by the government to make people less greedy, so they can easily be more greedy. A good thing is infinity, which is why Batman is one of my favourite movies ever.

Continuing with the Jack Nicholson theme, I was really stoked about Chinatown, directed by my favourite director, Roman Polanski, starring Jack Nicholson. I didn't bother to worry about it being too much of a good thing, and it's a good thing I didn't because the movie was a very good thing.
Another good example is the fantastic duet "We Can Funk" by Prince and P-Funk leader George Clinton. I was into this song before I discovered Parliament-Funkadelic, but I certainly have a whole new appreciation for it now that I know who exactly the deep-voiced character singing "I'm testin' positive for the funk/I'll gladly pee in anybody's cup" is.
And then there's "Dancing in the Streets". Okay, so the song itself is no "Gimme Shelter" or "Moonage Daydream". What makes this Bowie/Jagger duet so magical is the rumours of a secret, forbidden (no! not forbidden! loved and accepted by all!) love affair between the two known bisexuals. I'm not the type to spell "hot" with an "aw" but if I did, I be typing "hawwwt" right now. Oh shit...

And then sometimes there's just pictures. You know, just a snapshot of an unexpected match of celebrities that just makes your day.

There's Pattie Boyd with the Rolling Stones.

Why did nobody tell me Jason Schwartzman and Zooey Deschanel dated?? I had to celebrate their coupling and mourn their breakup in the same thought! It was an emotional roller coaster...When the Olsens met Winehouse...I'd be very surprised if no cocaine was exchanged.
When Cory Kennedy met Lindsay Lohan...I'd be very surprised if no tales of herbal STD-treatments were exchanged. My precious, precious Arthur Lee with Jimi Hendrix. (Photo credit: Jeffrey Eisen)

There! Proof! Greatness + greatness = superterrifichappy greatness! And don't get me started on when evil joins forces (cough4minutestosavetheworldcough)

*May be slightly embellished. I can't juggle. It was just two oranges.

the molly '08!

I'm not really big on New Year's Resolutions (I'm all for setting goals for yourself, but you shouldn't feel pressured to do it just because its a specific day), so mine was small: Renew my Blender subscription. I did that yesterday morning, and now I'm set for the rest of the year...ahhh.
The past month or so, however, I feel like I've been having a bit of an identity crisis, trying to figure out who exactly I am and, more importantly, who I want to be. I think I've gotten it straightened out.
I'd love to combine these five personalities, and have that be my personality. I'd love to have Alexa Chung's wit, Pattie Boyd's class, Elaine's self-confidence, Sharon Tate's sweetness and Eloise's enthusiasm towards life. I really believe that a person is really just made up of the influences of a number of different people, and I hope this will be the five personalities that conglomerate into one - mine!

you got me on my knees

Right now I'm reading Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Me by Pattie Boyd (whyyyy on earth was she not on my most beautiful list?? I know I considered her, but why I decide to omit her? I seriously need to re-do that).
I haven't even gotten to the part of her meeting George Harrison yet, but it's completely enthralling. She's an absolutely incredible woman. Anyone with an interest in the 1960's, the Beatles, Eric Clapton, groupie or modelling should check out this book. But I know you don't want to hear me talk, you just want to gaze in awe at Pattie Boyd and her gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh (not to mention George Harrison and his!)

i cant believe im mentioning the great jim morrison in the same post as hilary duff either

What I'm Currently Pining For:

I'm dying for a good pair of leather pants. Thanks to Nicola, I'm getting into the Doors and Jim Morrison is definitely an inspiration on this count. I doubt I'll actually find a good, affordable pair that fit me, but I can dream, right?

And because I'm obviously in such a Hell's Angels state of mind (aren't we all), I'd like a leather jacket as well.

Though I doubt I can pull it off and look as badass as Hilary.

Shudder. I'm kind of scared of her now. I bet she'd kick my ass.

I NEED A GOOD HAIRCUT!

And while that picture's up, a good bandana as well.

I also think I'm going to give in and finally get an iPod. I've lasted this long, but since my sister got one, it's sort of torturing me.

I think Pattie Boyd's dress here is the second greatest I've ever seen (after Mary-Kate's, see sidebar). I want a great, colourful minidress! Preferably vintage.

Valentine's Day post tomorrow...BE EXCITED!
