I know I said I wasn't going to blog about this cycle, but I can't resist a little review of my thoughts. I chose my favourites before, when Lipstick Bitches did a post about them and, based on looks alone, I chose Atalya and Dominique. I am very struck by how much Dominique looks like Lisa from cycle...(I can't even keep track of the cycles anymore)...from cycle When Nicole Won, And Was Therefore Corrupt and Wrong.

In fact, this whole cycle seems to be about the lookalikes. (I was very stoked to see Jael make a comeback...love her) Stacy Ann looks like Danielle from Cycle 6. Allison (who I like) looks like Sarah Silverman. Claire looks like someone but I just can't place it.
I'm sorry, and I know it's not her fault, but I can't look at Fatima without getting lightheaded. As soon as Tyra got a really serious look on her face and was like "You've had something serious happen to you, why don't you tell us about that?" I said "She's been circumsized". I could put two and two together...raised in Africa, Tyra's serious face. (On a sidenote, do you have to have something bad happen to you to make it on the show? Is there a section on the entry form saying "Check all applicable: Been raped, been molested, have an abusive boyfriend, parent doesn't approve of modelling, am a mother, parent on drugs, or OTHER".) I was incredibly disturbed, and I feel ill looking at her. And then I feel guilty for looking away whenever she's onscreen. HELLO, I watch ANTM to feel good about myself for not being a retarded, stuck-up, self-obsessed bitch. Stop trying to make me think about world issues.

Anyway, I might keep blogging about this cycle, I'm not sure. Let's see what strikes my fancy.

facebook groups are rad

Jen at Mahalo Fashion had the fantastic idea of organizing a blogging awards sort of thing! It's loads of fun, and I'm not telling you who I voted for (I e-mailed my vote in yesterday) but some people on my sidebar definitely got props from me! More information at: http://mahalofashion.com/Awards.html

One of my favorite things about Facebook.com is the groups. As of now, I have joined 177 groups, and I'm very specific about how good the names are (I even joined a group called "No, I will not join your Facebook group unless it has a catchy name") So lo and behold, in no real order, my ten favorite Facebook groups:
I want to be Peter Pan when I grow up...wait, shit!
I'm a hardcore Peter Pan fan, and so I went on the prowl for a group that could express my love. This one's title made me laugh out loud, and I couldn't resist joining!

Fuck high school, I wanna be a three-toed sloth
I feel a certain kinship with the three-toed sloth, and I feel convinced that if I was at Hogwarts (shut up, you know you think about it too), my Patronus would be one.
I Fucking Hate When Girls Do That Stupid Lip Thing and Peace Sign in Pics
Okay, we've all been guilty of this one, but I've made a solemn oath never to do it again, except in a very humorous incident of satire.

Your life will NEVER be as hard as Tyra Banks'!
I have to give props to Danielle from Dilemma Knows Fashion (and my own Facebook buddy) for this one. When I saw she joined, I was curious, and as soon as I read the description, knew this was the kind of ANTM Facebook group for me! I love the person that commented: Every time I'm feeling down and out I always stop and say to myself, "Hey things could be worse, you could be in Tyra Bank's shoes right now." That usually pulls me out of what ever slump I'm in.
Michael Jackson: so what he's crazy? u kno he STILL da bomb yo!
I'm a recovering Michael Jackson addict, and so I knew I had to join an MJ group. The problem was, I needed on that could properly express my feelings for him. Most were either terribly hateful or overly praising....until I found this one. It really sums it all up for me...and the "hookd on foniks" title was the icing on the cake.
Citizens against the Simpson War Machine's Assault on Music
Who isn't, really?

Alex turner, brain of a surgeon lyrics of a god
Like the Michael Jackson one, this one's appeal lies in its semi-nonsensical title. I keep hoping that its actually "lyrics of a surgeon, brain of a god"....wouldn't that be more fun?

I'd fuck Mick Jagger and Keith Richards at the same time
Again, who wouldn't, really?

Disney Gave Me Unrealistic Expectations About Love
Um, yeah, I'd throw "Archie comics" in there too. Though maybe you have to be a stunningly beautiful princess for the "Disney effect" to work.
I'm not sure if the double-t on "hotts" is intentional, designed to add a certain flair, but who can argue that David Bowie is an extremely sexy alien?

SPOILER ALERT

And America's Next Top Model Who Will Actually Fade Into Obscurity But Sometimes Pop Up in Seventeen Magazine to Capitalize on Her "Fame" is...

Saleisha!
And we all knew she was going to win from...episode one.

Seriously, most predictable cycle yet. (And that's saying a lot)
I'm glad Saleisha won, because I think she's stunningly beautiful and a good model.
I hated how Jenah broke down and gave her "sob story", which I knew was in her but hoped she would break the mold and not let Tyra coax it out of her.
Tyra loves to see those bitches cry. She almost admitted it this episode.

I don't know if I'm going to be blogging next cycle regularly. It got old, and so I think next cycle I'll only blog when I'm inspired to. Feedback?

hmm

I can`t even think of anything to say.
Blogging ANTM is getting so old.

hmm

Disgrace!
How many times did Tyra say this episode "This is a personality contest". Maybe not in those words, but it was multiple times.
Wait, wait, wait....the problem is...this isn't a personality contest. It's a modelling contest!
Tyra isn't looking for America's Next Top Model, she's looking for America's Next Top Role Model. There isn't anything wrong with that...but she shouldn't say she's looking for a top model and then say that personality counts just as much as pictures. In the fashion world...no, it doesn't.
How this season has flown by! Two more episodes....wow
I loved Jenah's quote about how just because she wasn't all squeal like Saleisha, doesn't mean she doesn't have personality. So true! In Top Model world "personality" seems to be code for "bubbly kiss-up". I thought Jenah had lots of personality and she pulled a CariDee. Nigel is wayy too sensitive. I didn't like her picture that much, because her makeup was weird.
Legs look weird.
Legs look weird.

Gotta say, not to be a bitch, but I'm soo glad Heather is gone.

hmm

I gotta say, Top Model is really grasping here. Judging them on their kung-fu skills? Frsrs? Tyra feels the need to get so creative with these challenges that they rarely have anything to do with modelling anymore.
And have they run out of photo shoot ideas? Isn't CoverGirl typically the last three contestants? I'm massively befuddled.
I have a very similar vest, except mine doesn't do that weird halter thing. I agree with the judges, Saleisha's crinkly eyes was a downside, but other than that, she looks good.
Yes, yes, Jenah, rock on! This is a bad angle of her face, she looks Melrose-esque (remember her?) And what's this about Jenah having no personality? I strongly disagree. Jenah is a goddess of personality.

Okay, okay, Chantal looked like a coked-up milkmaid but it's not fair to call her out for that. They told her to bring clothes that represented herself...so she did. Her face looks gorgeous.
Heather is irritating the bejeesus out of me. And seriously, the next time Tyra says "assburgers", Heather's gonna snap.
Frsrs.

hmm

Okay, America's Next Top Model keeps heading in the wrong direction.
First of all, I'd like to say, you can't force someone to inspire someone or be a muse. That was the most ridiculous challenge! A designer being inspired by a model is something that happens naturally, and being a muse isn't a skill you can judge or acquire because it's simply being yourself.

This is probably the worst cycle yet, but that being said...

In this picture, this looks like the most model-y looking top seven yet. The clothes are wack though. Speaking of wack clothes, those outfits they "inspired" were awful. I don't know if it's because they weren't inspirational enough, or just cause the designers was a bit too amateur.
Anyway, this photoshoot pleased me because it wasn't over thought out or too commercial.

This picture is good, but I think the arm on the brow looks cheesy. Still, Jenah pleases me more each episode. Hence me posting her picture first...you noticed, right?

I think Saleisha's picture was incredible, for some reason I like it when people stand with their legs like that. Don't ask me why, though, I'm pretty bizarre.

Chantal did quite excellent as well.
Those Chinese animal-thingys made me laugh. Personally, I've never really wanted to go to China, and I never really associated it with haute couture, but God forbid they go to Paris or London twice!

no.

This episode demonstrated everything that's wrong with America's Next Top Model today.
The lack of high fashion, editorial, haute couture has been the most glaring error of this entire season (and most of the more recent seasons). And it all culminated with the horror of having to be in an Enrique Iglesias video.
I must sympathize with these girls. They came on the show, trying to break into the fashion world (foolish of them, of course, because everyone knows that Top Model does not produce top models, but sympathy is still due), and they end up done up dominatrix-style, standing it a sweltering basement, having to listen to an Enrique Iglesias song (and it doesn't matter which one, because they all song the same) over and over. And they have to be enthusiastic about it!
I'm guessing it was supposed to be edgy...hell, they had grime on them, and lots of heavy eye makeup! Totally edgy! And that effect was ruined by the fact that, uh, it was an Enrique Iglesias video. His persona and music is probably the most un-editorial out of the entire industry...did the producers do this on purpose?
There was no photoshoot this week. It's been three weeks since there was, thanks to the clip show last week.
The girls were judged on their performance in the video. If you want to see it, you can watch it here:

[I took the video out because its stupid and silly and I hate having Enrique Iglesias on my blog, especially when the girls aren't even in it. You can see the fraudulent video here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=X86S5oZzzh4 ...if you really want to. And the ANTM version here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jnk7NIeXUWs ]

EDIT: Whoa, whoa, whoa...I just watched this video, and the Top Model girls are not in it. It's completely different girls! This whole episode is a fraud!! Why am I not surprised? This is too bizarre...I'm gonna see it I can find the video that they are in!

Thursday, November 01, 2007

Well, well, well, a clip show. A bit early this year, but probably because it was Halloween, and they're assuming free candy and an excuse to get drunk during the week would probably beat out ANTM on most peoples schedules.
Right they were!
I went out trick or treating, and watched some of the show, but when I realized it was just a clip show, I didn't care. Candy takes priority!
I dressed up as a classic 70's-style groupie....short skirt, groupie hair, lots of makeup, boots. Ahh, the boots. I'll tell you how much my feet hurt...it started raining, but I took off my boots and kept going in my socks. In the rain. Yeah, that's how bad I wanted candy.

Meet my sister's Harry Potter pumpkin. Kawaii, no?

I hope you guys all had a great Halloween, sober or no. What did you dressed up as?

Thursday, October 25, 2007

yes, we get it. youve "gone green"

GASPSHOCKTWIST! What an ending! If you haven't seen it yet...try not to read past this sentence or I might accidentally give away the shocking turn of events at panel. Is this....could it be? Is there any chance that it is...a Top Model first???
I won't give it away because some of you might have missed it, or some of you might live in foreign countries where you're lagging sorely behind.

The photoshoot was Recycling themed. Okay, that was kind of lame. I'd always thought of fashion to be sort of like mass debauchery. Sex, drugs, rock and roll, no compost, throwing your paper in the garbage! How many times per episode do we have to be reminded that this is the environmentally-friendly cycle? It isn't even about the fashion anymore. Well, it never really was, but I'm pretty sure about 2.4% of each episode is devoted to anything that has to do with fashion. ANTM is losing blogger's-cred by the minute. And yet we always come back for more...
Because Tyra throws in celebrities to keep us coming! Tyson Beckford and Mary J. Blige in one episode? Damn, this cycle must be really shitty!
(I can't hate, Tyson Beckford, though a bit to muscle-y for me, is always looking good)

Saleisha is looking fierce. As usual. Yawwn.
She needs to mix it up and get all gawky sometimes. The fierce-thing is getting old.

Yay, Jenah! My new second! Uh, yeah, I just get distracted by how the picture is all about the recycling and not about the fashion.
Despite what Mr. Beckford says, I love this picture. But it might just be the bangs. I swear, sometimes I'll like someone, just because they have bangs. Chantal is my third.

r.i.p. janet

Now I really don't know much about Asperger's, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I know a boy who has Asperger's and I notice that he often tries to imitate other people in social situations. This episode reminded me of that. Suddenly, Heather has a bitchy side! I seem to recall her trying to stay out of the drama, and telling her mom that she just wants to get along with all the girls. What a shame she's fallen into the trap of badmouthing the other girls. I always respect that one girl in the house who is the "peacemaker".
I really liked the idea for a gargoyle theme, but it did not turn out like I thought it would.
I have a theory that when the girls audition for the show, they are asked what their fear is. And then the producers make sure that some girls have to face their biggest fear...hello, drama!

Saleisha looks gorgeous, and fierce, and nothing like a gargoyle.
Janet...sigh. I guess there's truth to my old theory that I jinx my second favorite. This is the second second I've lost, and we're only on the fifth episode! I guess my new second is Jenah, who is impressing me. And her hair reminds me of Mary-Kate!

like a butterfly goes through metamorphesis....

They really were lagging with the makeovers this year, weren't they? I mean, in the third episode instead of the second! Did they waste all their budget on biodiesel busses and couldn't afford to get Jessica Simpson's hairstylist to do one more girl. Chantal had the best makeover, I think, but then I'm just a sucker for bangs.
Saleisha...

Oh, Saleisha. I'm on the fence on this one. At first glance it's just...bad. But then the more I look, the more it reminds me of the kind of haircut a girl from a 70's disco band would have. And that's...well, okay, that's just bad too.
Janet, my new second, has an alright makeover. The colour seems weird, but she can pull it off. I really don't think it makes her look any more modelling, but I guess Tyra Knows Best. (Oh, God....a sitcom! That's her evil plan! That's where she's headed next!...oh, wait, phew, she did that already. Remember Jackie from Fresh Prince?)
Disco, disco duck....I wanna be a disco duck...Disco, disco duck...I wanna be a disco duck
That's all I can think looking at this picture.
WOW, she really captured hydrangea's slutty essence. That's my girl!

Thursday, September 27, 2007

"im, like, not trying to be mean, but this is just, like, what i think"

You know the sort of actress who doesn't really seem to act so much as appear in public and magazines and ads.
That's what this episode reminded me of. The photoshoot wasn't high fashion at all. It was a public service announcement. Which is fine, if this was America's Next Top Role Model, but it's not.
I felt almost patronized by Tyra. "When young girls watch this show and see you, their role models, smoking, what does that make them think? 'Hmm, smoking must be cool'"

Actually, Tyra, I happen to have...a mind. Whether I smoke or not is a decision I can make for myself. Though sadly, I know there are girls who would smoke because they saw a role model doing it, but you can't force someone to be a role model. I think it will be pretty clear which of the girls smoke because now we'll have to hear them bitch about quitting.
Oh, I see now! This isn't about principles....it's because ANTM needs a whole new brand of in-house drama.
"Hey, Ken Mok, imagine how much they'd fight if they were deprived of the nicotine that their body is addicted to!"
"You're right, Tyra...smoking ban!"
Notice how they still have alcohol in the house...like that doesn't damage your body and is addictive as well.
Okay, time to stop sipping on the Haterade (bahahhaha sooo lame), and show some love for Kimberly and Saleisha.
Kimberly looks so sexy in this picture, and it ain't the cigarette. Her body position is kinda quirky which I dig.
Okay, I'm sorry, and I know I'm going against pretty much all Top Model fans, but I can't stand Heather. She's quite irritating, I don't think she's gorgeous and I don't think people with autism are really made for the fashion industry. So I was bummed that Saleisha and her gorgeous face had to share the shoot with Heather. Still, Saleisha looks goood.

mmm, that time of year!

Watching the girls getting jetted off to the Caribbean, I realized how far this show has come. Remember the first season (sorry, cycle)? The cramped casting room in New York...and now eight cycles later, they're in an auditorium on a cruise ship, sailing around Peurto Rico. And you know the girls from the first cycle are going, "If only I'd waited a couple years..."

I'm thinking its a pretty great crop this cycle. I really like Janet, Bianca and Chantel but I'd say my favorites are:

Saleisha:
She has an incredibly gorgeous face and a sweet personality.

Kimberly:
She was wearing the most beautiful shade of blue which made her eyes look sinfully great, and she has a sort of laid-back sex appeal. I adore her.

So...your favorites?
Let me hear allll your feedback!

spoilers alert! well...you knew that

I realized at the beginning of the episode that I really had no clue who would win, and who would be in the final two. My family (yes, my entire family watches...my dad gets really into it) were all guessing but I really couldn't imagine...I would've been happy with any of them winning.
Natasha because she's my favorite.
Jaslene because she clearly wants it the most.
Renee because she had those awesome headscarves.

I must say I don't approve of the decision of cutting the finale from two hours to one. It felt rushed. I was thrilled to see Miss CariDee back but, boy, she sure had a PR job done on her. Where's that superwacky girl? At least she learned how to walk!
The runway show was pretty groovy, I liked the evolution theme, though it didn't really go anywhere beyond a creepy-crawly first walk. The clothes were kinda dull too. I knew if Jaslene was in the bottom two, she'd win because that girl can walk.
Wasn't that kind of funny how Renee whispered to Natasha "Win it for the mamas". It kind of demonstrated how two-faced she was. Last week she was saying Natasha should go home because she's "weird" and "annoying". Anyway, I'm glad Jaslene won. Even though Natasha was my favorite, I've wanted Jaslene to win all along because she clearly wanted it the most.
And now hopefully more girls from past sesasons will try again. Wouldn't that be fun?

A shot I love: Jas-queen teaching Jay-queen to be a cha-cha diva...not that he didn't know already.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

and then there were three...

Well...it must be admitted. The picture was god-awful. Even the chick behind her's like "What the fuck are you doing?"

But I think the gang-up-on-Natasha plan failed and the judges felt bad for her. Renee's back to her bitchy self...I knew the intervention wouldn't last long, except she's not the bitchy loner anymore...she's the bitchy ringleader who picks on poor Natasha just because she's a bit off.
But that's what I love about Natasha...a bit quirky but awesome. And if they saw her husband, they would completely understand the nuzzling the phone. I would've done more than nuzzle!
So the finale's next week, and then a break and then...Canada's Next Top Model! You Americans (and Brits) will hear allll about it from me!

"im not an emotional person!"

Yessss, I have never been so pleased to have a contestant eliminated. That whiny bitch drove me crazy. The "I-got-hit-by-a-car" thing got so old (I sound like such a bitch) And Dionne made a good point: At the acting challenge, Brittany easily memorized a much longer script than for the Covergirl commercial. And I feel bad for her taxi driver!
Natasha, however, continued to amaze me. I still can't believe that my favorite is my least favorite from the first episode.
This picture is especially impressive, probably my favorite from the day.

Finished first unit of French (out of four).
Two-thirds of the way through Math.
Haven't started English.
Sorry for the late/short post!

no pictures...but a post!

Let me start out by saying I'm ashamed. Five people have chosen "Prince - he's untalented" in my poll! Yes, I know I put it there, but I didn't think anyone would actually choose it! If you chose it, tell me know and then you're banned from my blog until you've downloaded eight Prince songs, and none of them can be Number One Singles.
Hahaha, check it out! An ANTM post on Thursday morning. Not bad for someone on sabbatical, huh?
Oh, wait. Clip show. Damn damn damn. The one time I'm prepared! This thing made me fall in love with Jael alll over again though. And I preferred her with blonde hair!
And Asia won The Search for the Next Doll. I was more of a Melissa R person, but by the last episode I was really pleased that she won. Here's a prediction: Nicole's gonna leave the Pussycat Dolls to be Prince's professional bitch (apparently they're dating?) Which is why they got Asia. Without Nicole, they need a gimmick.
Who has Facebook and wants to be my friend? Want to know a tricky way of finding me? Search "Arlo Guthrie" and I come up! 'Molly G', thats me. Fun to hang out outside the blogosphere isn't it. Wait, how's that spelled?
It's hard to read a post with no pictures eh? (Whoops, gave myself away, I'm Canadian) Sorry, lovies, I'll try not to let it happen again.

P.S. New fixture to my sort-of-failing sidebar. I always get such great comments, that I felt I just had to highlight one every once in a while. That means thank you, Lipstick Lady, for the awesome story! And now the pressure's on for awesomely hilarious comments. YES!

"i wanna learn to talk good"

Well, I should have my eyelids sewn together as I sleep so when I wake up and try to open my eyes, the eyelids rip apart and get all bloody and then I can never close them properly again.

"I'll post by 3 o'clock". Why do I feel the need to lie to such faithful readers? Here it is, Sunday afternoon, a post about Wednesday. But what an eventful Wednesday it was!
We bid farewell to Jael. Sad, but I knew it was coming. I had accepted it. And for the first time in Top Model history (don't you just get all prickly on your neck when Tyra says that?), I changed my favorite.

To someone I originally hated.
That's right, Jael, I'm rollin' with Natasha.
Pulled off the amazing Aussie slang ON TOP of a Russian accent. That girl has what it takes to
be AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL!!!! NO WAY.

Now I'm going to post this, short I'm SORRRRRY, but I will try to post again soon. Dammit, I suck.

Thursday, April 19, 2007

sorry...

ANTM post as soon as I finish writing my provincial exam (around 3-ish, California time. Even though I'm not from California.)
